Meet Grand Rapids Capoeira
Founded in 2016 by Juston “Talento” Espinoza, Grand Rapids Capoeira was created to cultivate a community that embraces movement and personal growth. Juston, a capoeirista (Capoeira practitioner) since 2005, holds a strong belief in Capoeira’s transformative power – a belief that continues to shape our school’s ethos to this day.
Over the years, Grand Rapids Capoeira has become a place where individuals of all backgrounds come together to immerse themselves in the art’s rich history, while embarking on a personal journey of self-discovery. Our school’s growth mirrors the growth of its members, with each class bringing new skills gained and shared. As we celebrate our origins and the milestones that have shaped us, we remain steadfast in our mission to carry forward the legacy of Capoeira, blending its timeless traditions with the ever-evolving goals of the individuals who make our community thrive. Join us as we continue to write the chapters of Grand Rapids Capoeira’s history, honoring the past while embracing the boundless possibilities of the future.
About Our Instructors
Meet our instructors. They're not just teachers; they're lifelong learners, passionate practitioners, and the heartbeat of our Capoeira group. With years of experience, a commitment to your growth, and a healthy dose of axé (positive, creative energy), they're here to guide, inspire, and challenge you. They're your partners in this captivating journey, walking beside you as you uncover each new layer of the Capoeira experience.
Juston “Instrutor Talento” Espinoza
Talento began training Capoeira in 2005 at Grand Valley State University and has trained throughout the United States, visiting a variety of other groups. He has taught workshops and performed throughout Michigan for schools, non-profits, festivals, and businesses.
Talento can usually be found teaching classes with a grin and more than a few jokes (they’re not always funny, but occasionally they get a chuckle). He aims to create a space where training is fun, even after doing 500 kicks, and any question is welcome.
